The dental implant market in the UK has changed alot in recent years. Whilst some dentists are still charging £3,500 per implant, there are a number of clinics currently offering competitively priced implants. There has been two main changes in the industry in recent years that has brought about a drop in prices. Firstly, a number of clinics specialising in dental implants have entered the market. They benefit from a reduced price base and are willing to accept a lower margin. Secondly, a number of dental tourism companies from Hungary have opened clinics in the UK. They are also willing to work for a lower margin and are driving down the price.

Dental treatment in the UK is still more expensive than having treatment abroad in certain European countries but the price difference is now less. The main advantages of having implants placed at home include:

• It reduces travel time – standard implant surgery will take two trips and about 10 days in the host country if you travel. Whilst hotels will be relatively cheap, it all adds up. Also, if you are working you will need to take this time off work.
• Standard warranties on dental implants are only valid if have annual check-ups on the implants and restoration carried out at the clinic where they were placed. Having annual check-ups will obviously be more difficult if you need to travel
• Although complications should be rare if you choose a good surgeon, any aftercare work will need to be carried at the host clinic
